Introducing My New Book: Explorers (+ Win A Copy!)
Last Updated on March 27, 2020
After almost a year of writing, my new book, Explorers, is finally out in stores!
I cannot begin to describe how excited and thankful I am, to see my hard work come into fruition.
Writing this book was one of the biggest adventures I’ve ever embarked on in my life. Unlike my previous book, this isn’t a collection of my personal stories and tips.
This book tells the stories of the world’s greatest explorers — from Ferdinand Magellan’s first circumnavigation of the world 500 years ago to Barbara Hillary’s treks to the North and South poles while in her seventies. This book is definitely great for armchair travel with kids.

What I Learned from Writing the Book
In order to tell the stories of the explorers, I had to do tons of research. Along the way, I got to know each and every one of the 50 odd explorers featured in the book.
Writing about them allowed me to follow their footsteps across continents and across generations. It was so much fun living their adventures and imagining the thrills and spills they encountered.
“A brilliant book to inspire the next generation of explorers” – Sir Ranulph Fiennes
A Kids’ Book to Inspire a Sense of Adventure
Explorers is also the first kids’ book I’ve ever written. Writing it definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me the chance to try something new. Turns out I really enjoy writing for kids!
As a mum, I couldn’t have asked for a better gift than this: to create a beautiful kids’ book that would inspire kids to get out there and explore. Today’s young generation can learn so much about determination and resilience from the explorers of yesterday.
My daughter is already dreaming about going to space after reading the book! She’s a budding adventurer and I hope she’ll keep this sense of adventure for years to come.
About the Book
Explorers focuses on 50 of the world’s greatest explorers, and their towering achievements. The book is filled with first-person accounts in the explorers’ own words and beautiful illustrations by Jessamy Hawke that re-create history’s greatest expeditions.
There are also incredible cross-sections revealing the amazing detail inside Spanish galleons, lost cities, and spaceships. Hand-drawn maps reveal their intrepid journeys in great detail, and photographs highlight the artifacts and relics they found along the way.
You’ll find explorers from all walks of life and different parts of the world. Travel around the world in less than 80 days with Nellie Bly, fight off frostbite in the Arctic alongside Ranulph Fiennes, and traverse the silk road with Xuan Zang.
A Look at My Favorite Explorers
Every single one of the explorers featured in the book has an amazing story to tell.
One of my favorite explorers is Amelia Earhart. Amelia went against all odds and dedicated much of her life to prove that women could do well in their jobs just like men and have equal value. I think she paved the way for women back in those days and contributed a lot to promoting gender equality. She still continues to inspire many girls, including myself.
Another explorer I really enjoyed writing about is Bungaree, an Aboriginal leader who led the British on expeditions around Australia. He was the first person born in Australia to circumnavigate the continent and became the first person to be described in writing as “Australian”. He was such an interesting character!
I also loved being able to interview Korean mountaineer Sung Taek Hong. It was such an honor to speak to him and learn all about his accomplishments. He has reached all Three Poles: summiting Mount Everest, skiing to the South Pole, and walking to the North Pole.
Special Thanks to DK Publishing

I am eternally grateful to Sam, my book editor who found me and approached me with the opportunity to write the book. I cannot thank him enough for believing in me. I really appreciate his patience and guidance throughout the whole journey.
